Saidin, saidar and the True Source

The One Power is drawn from the True Source, which has two halves: saidin, the male side, and saidar, the female side. Saidin is tainted by the Dark One, which is why male channelers of the current Age slide into madness — a danger that hangs over the Dragon Reborn himself. Channeling means weaving the Five Powers — Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit — out of one half or the other.

The Aes Sedai are the organization of female channelers, seated in Tar Valon under the Amyrlin Seat and divided among seven Ajahs, each with its own purpose and shawl-fringe color. At the table this same idea drives your Pattern: skill in five fields — including the One Power — that you build up turn by turn.

The seven Ajahs

Each Ajah is identified by the color of its shawl fringe — the legend below uses each canonical hex.
