Leveling Up
War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time
The heroes of Emond's Field grow from Level 1 as the Wheel turns.
The Light's core arc
In Epic Mode, the Light's primary narrative arc is the growth of its five core characters — the heroes of Emond's Field, who begin at Level 1. Leveling is the Light's signature mechanic: steadily improving existing heroes rather than (as the Shadow does) unleashing new lieutenants.
How heroes gain levels
Hero progression
- Wheel Track
- The most direct path to levels. Advancing the Wheel Track can guarantee levels — especially for Rand al'Thor.
- Card upgrade
- When a hero levels, the previous character card is flipped over, revealing a skill icon, and that card is added to the Light's Pattern.
- Rand's capstone
- If Rand reaches his highest level, the Light unlocks a capstone tile — a major bonus used in the Last Battle.
- If a hero falls
- If a hero is taken out of the game, any levels they would have gained later convert into a single skill icon for the Light's Pattern instead.
